Summary: Recommendations to reduce time associated with cable pulling

There are a number of suggestions that could be tried to reduce time associated with cable pulling. Lubricants can be used such as American Polywater CorporationExternal site's silicone oil polymer. Use of such a lubricant on the outside of the cables will decrease the frictional resistance and therefore decrease cable tension. As a result of this benefit, the maximum allowed length of cable permitted in a single piece without intermediate splicing will increase. It is expected the amount of time for installation and the number of cable splices will decrease.

Use of a lubricant will require equipment to apply the lubricant automatically.

Installation of cable may be enhanced by the use of cable tray rollers and sheaves that decrease the frictional resistance and decrease cable tension upon installation. Assisted pulling of the cable may be used to decrease the cable installation time. Such devices may allow a longer lenght of cable to be pulled if the maximum allowable tension in the cable is not exceeded.

All of the above suggestions should reduce installation time.
